A downloadable game

Transmachina is a bite-sized metroidvania game about a scout robot exploring a biolab. Learn new abilities, explore the rooms for upgrades, destroy enemy sentries and fight a boss. This was made in a month, and is  is my entry for Metroidvania Month XVI.

You can play on Keyboard and/or Gamepad, and there is a WebGL version and a Windows Build.

Controls:

Keyboard

  • WASD or Arrows - Move
  • J  or Left Ctrl - Blaster
  • L or Left Shift - Dash
  • K or Space - Jump / Confirm
  • Escape - Cancel

Gamepad

  • D-PAD or Left Analog - Move
  • West Button - Blaster
  • East Button - Dash / Cancel
  • South Button - Jump / Confirm

This game was developed by using Unity, LMMS, Aseprite, and a few other helper tools.

It also uses an open-source library (developed by me) that helps with general-purpose development: https://github.com/ConradoClark/Licht

You can find the source code of the game here:  https://github.com/ConradoClark/mvm16-transmachination

(There's no way yet to open golden doors, just in case anyone wonders that)

It was quite a challenge to pull this off and it's not perfect, but I'm kinda glad with the end result, and I learned a lot during the whole process.

Please let me know if anything is not working properly! (There will be bugs, surely!) Thank you so much for dropping by.

This is very cool, I like the art, and the design is making me think just enough. I made it until I glitched through the floor outside of a boss door and had to exit and restore from a save, but the save didn't have any powerups and I couldn't backtrack to recover them.

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that saving is not working as expected, I tested it but not thoroughly enough it seems. Glitching through the floor was unexpected as well haha, I'll try to fix both problems right after the jam ratings. The physics system is custom-made, I have a lot to improve on it.

Thank you so much for playing though!

Seems fun, but I have to admit that I'm having trouble figuring out where to go after getting the dash upgrade. Heading up to the room in the third screenshot just leads to an area that seems to need a jump upgrade, and heading back seems like the same. Got any hints as to what I'm missing?

If you're stuck where I think, there's a target on the side to shoot to open the ceiling door.

It was actually the room before that one that was giving me trouble. For some reason I didn't realize you could jump after dashing, so  I couldn't figure out how to get over the wall.

Yeah the dash has a very wide range of functions, most of the times I got stuck I needed to dash somehow. The timing for dash-to-jump is kind of tricky so it's hard to find it's even possible.

I think hcs64 got it, there's a green target on the left which you can shoot to open the ceiling door. In order to get up there you have to activate the crystal (which is in the same room) in order to jump higher and get to the platform.

I actually just didn't realize I could dash-jump in the room before that. Just needed to experiment a bit more, I guess.
